Truth be Told...
Truth be told, I don't care much for readers....I do care and at the same time I don't care. I know how writers...whatever their degree of writing ...wish for appreciation..I don't care for appreciation.
Not that the fact of "being appreciated" is contra-nature. But you don't sell yourself for appreciation.
You are, or ought to remain authentic...no matter what...to the best of your ability...regardless if you are appreciated or not appreciated.
That has been my motto..and it shall remain.
